Penn State Engineers in Action

Penn State Engineers in Action sends student-led teams around the world to construct footbridges for communities that lack year-round access to essential resources.

Our projects are focused on the communities that we serve.  We work alongside community members who have committed to contribute to the bridge being constructed in their village.  When the bridge is complete, community members no longer have to risk dangerous river crossings during the rainy season.  Instead, they have safe access to food, education, medical care, and more.

Students have the opportunity to apply classroom skills to a real project.  Our project teams include a student project manager, design manager, construction manager, and more.  Students prepare throughout the school year to travel and construct the footbridge.  The value of these projects extends beyond technical skills into cultural awareness and sacrificial service.
